Splendid.

I'm hoping there'll be an attempt to get more people involved with programming, so there's a bigger pool of a) talent and b) ideas. There's often a tendency to 'round up the usual suspects' and this inevitably ends up with more-of-the-same, and also means that it tends to drift away from SF type things. A few years ago I suggested that people like me might like to be more involved and get on panels and things but don't get asked (OK, this was at a convention I was running so it's not like I wasn't involved there, but I meant at things like Eastercons) and was told point blank that I was only known in fandom for teaching exercise classes* and no-one in their right mind would ever ask me to be on anything that wasn't exercise related because I simply wasn't known for doing anything else. It sort of makes it difficult to bring in new ideas, whether SF-related or otherwise.

*which I've been doing for all of four years
